My name is Jaicelyn Rowe and I'm an 18 year old aspiring Fashion Designer from Townsville, Australia.
Throughout High School I was always interested in the creative arts - regularly competing in AATFA's (Apex Australia Teenage Fashion Awards) Wearable Art category where I placed 2nd for three consecutive years (2010, 2011, 2012). It was through this competition that my interest in fashion design grew.
At 16 I left school and began my own emerging label 'AWKWARD ORCHID'. I started selling at local markets in 2012 and eventually found my footing in 2013 when I became a regular stall holder at Renegade Handmade markets. With a lot of hard work and a bit of luck A.O. started to pick up momentum in 2013/14 and was soon featured in photo spreads and articles in local and national magazines, online publications, and the local newspaper. Before I knew it, my work was being sold at boutiques in Townsville, Brisbane, and Sydney.
AWKWARD ORCHID was a great learning curve for me but I still have a lot to learn. To further my knowledge and skills in design and give me all the guidance I need to make a career in Fashion I hope to undertake a Bachelor of Fashion Design at QUT in Feb 2016. For that to happen I will need to move to Brisbane!
Each and every sale made will aid in my savings for both my move to Brisbane and my trip to Japan planned for this year. Every piece is handmade with care by myself - from drafting the pattern, cutting out the fabric and finally, sewing everything together. Any support you can give me will be greatly appreciated!
